Abstract or project description

Moore’s Law emerged in the 1970s due to the technological and economic conditions in the microprocessor industry at the time - however, in today’s environment, Moore’s Law has started to subside due to different technological and economic conditions. This is because Moore’s Law has had a large impact in driving the microprocessor industry to solely focus on reducing transistor size and increasing transistor count - which has led to other aspects of microprocessor design, such as the development of new ISAs, or different computing techniques, stagnating. I would like to examine the specific conditions and changes in the microprocessor industry that have directly caused both the rise and the fall of Moore’s Law - and from them, how they may lead the microprocessor industry into a future without Moore’s Law.
