About
Hello! My name is Michael Ross and my project is about examining intentions behind American aid to Ukraine. I chose this topic because the interplay between media representations, intentionality, and geopolitics is fascinating to me and of course, very relevant.Projects

Unmasking Intentions: analysis of US aid to Ukraine amidst Russian invasion

Abstract or project description
War produces media, and media produces war. In the Russo-Ukrainian war, the specter of authoritarian Russia has been used by Western media to justify American intervention in Ukraine. Undoubtedly, this is a good thing, but regardless of whether the US should help Ukraine, why are they helping Ukraine? Would America care if it were a country other than Russia? Where is this urgency when it comes to humanitarian crises in Syria, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and others? I explore multiple possible counter-theories for America's generosity, such as racial bias and strategic interests. It is my goal to expose this false generosity and unmask the true, ethically bankrupt intentions behind American aid.
