Comparing Horror Tropes Through Film in Two Contexts

Started Dec. 6, 2024

Abstract or project description

Liv’s project is about comparing two different horror tropes—one probably from the U.S. and one from another country—such as monsters or withces, to deal with bigger topics like fear, war, gender, or politics. She wants to look at how horror movies aren’t just for fun, but actually say (and reveal) a lot about the time and place they were made in. Liv doesn’t know yet exactly which films or tropes she’ll focus on, but she plans to choose one or two and look at how each film shows them in a different way. She’s especially interested in how things like history or culture can shape what a horror movie is really about. Her goal is to show that horror films can be a powerful way to critically understand and engage the world around them.
