How does stigmatization and/or discrimination against individuals with depression impact the development or access to care for these individuals?

Abstract or project description

For my project, I plan to research, write, and publish a long-form article exploring the question: How does stigmatization and discrimination against individuals with depression impact the development of these disorders and access to care for those affected? This topic is especially important in our modern day society, because many individuals who deal with mental psychosis now or some form of mental illness struggle to receive proper care in medical facilities. In other words, mental health is extremely overlooked. For example, funding to mental healthcare facilities is very low, making it harder for those who have illnesses to access the treatment they need. There are several different common mental disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, or bipolarity. My article will specifically focus on depression. My paper will fundamentally cover the societal treatment, stigmatization, and discrimination of those who have depression and how we can help spread awareness for those who deal with it and how we can make treatment more accessible to everyone as a society. My goal is not only to inform, but to push readers toward action.
