Same Genes, Different Senses: Exploring the Effects of Music and Color on Emotional and Physical Responses in ASD and Typically Developing Adolescents: A Case Study

Abstract or project description
This project examines how differing auditory (music) and visual (color) stimuli influence emotional regulation and physical responses in a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) compared to their typically developing (TD) twin using a twin-comparison case study design. By leveraging the genetic and environmental similarities inherent in twin pairs, the study isolates how neurodevelopmental differences shape responses to sensory input. Both children will be exposed to structured variations in music tempo and color saturation while changes in mood, attention, physiological arousal, and behavior are systematically observed. Comparing within-pair responses allows for a nuanced understanding of sensory sensitivity, regulation, and adaptability in ASD relative to typical development. Findings from this case study aim to inform individualized, sensory-based interventions that support emotional well-being and engagement in children with ASD.
