About

Hey everyone, this is Kris! I am a rising senior at Appleton North. Outside of Polygence, I enjoy volunteering as a tutor and playing my cello, for both classical and pop music :) My Polygence Project mainly focuses on a resurfacing treatment method called Phage Therapy. If you are interested in learning more about the current development stage of phage therapy, please consider registering at the link above to view my presentation on September 18th, 2021! Hope to see you soon! :)

Phage Therapy against antibiotic-resistant pathogens

Started Mar. 15, 2021

Abstract or project description

As antibiotic usage becomes increasingly prevalent, cases reporting antibiotic resistance amongst deadly pathogens have risen correspondingly. Consequently, once-unexplored medical treatment methods have resurfaced as a potential option to treat antibiotic-resistant diseases. Specifically, researchers have turned to phage therapy, an alternative form of medication that uses bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria) to combat bacteria-induced illnesses. This review paper will detail the development of phage therapy in clinical trials against notable antibiotic-resistant pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The studies reviewed show promise as another medical treatment that can counteract these bacteria.
