About
Hello! My name is Krishna and my Polygence project is on researching mycobacterium tuberculosis and finding out how it is so deadly to humans. the reason I wanted to o my project on this topic because tuberculosis is a leading cause of death worldwide especially in poorer countries, and that it is different from most kinds of diseases.Projects

Project Portfolio
An investigation into the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis with bacteriophages and other means
Started Nov. 15, 2024
Abstract or project description
My project will be focused on the bacteria M. tuberculosis and its microbiology, and patho physiology. I will explain why this bacteria is so effective in causing disease, and the current ways to treat it. Specifically, I will be focusing on the unusual treatment methods of bacteriophages, which are viruses that specifically target bacteria. I will talk about the basic components of a bacteriophage, including the lytic and lysogenic cycles in which the phage reproduces. Additionally, I will explain the benefits and disadvantages of bacteriophages. For example, one benefit of bacteriophages is that there levels are self controlling, and a disadvantage is that phages for mtb do not have a wide host range. One important i will also cover is multi drug resistant tuberculosis, and extensively drug resistant tuberculosis, which are forms of tuberculosis that are very difficult to treat with the usual antibiotics. This will pair with bacteriophages, where I will investigate the use of bacteriophages to combat these drug resistant strains.
