About
Hello! My name is Kiara Escudero and my Polygence project is on barriers to adherence and access with antiretroviral therapy in developing countries. I chose to work on this project because I'd like to immerse myself in the field of microbiology and also incorporate my interest in public health. In addition, I want to dedicate my time and efforts in expanding my knowledge of different viruses, such as HIV, which holds stigma in today’s society.Projects

Barriers in long-term adherence to HIV antiretroviral therapy in developing countries
Started Feb. 28, 2023
Abstract or project description
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is one of the most effective ways of preventing HIV-related morality. However, patient adherence to antiretroviral therapy and rates of retention have been suboptimal in developing countries within racial/ethnic minorities. This current study examines whether barriers associated with antiretroviral therapy such as financial constraints, perceived discrimination, medical mistrust, social stigma, etc. have an effect on the adherence of antiretroviral therapy within racial/ethnic minorities in developing countries.
