About
Hello! My name is Kiara Escudero and my Polygence project is on adherence and access to antiretroviral therapy in developing countries. I chose to work on this project because I'd like to immerse myself in my intended field of microbiology and immunology and also incorporate public health. In addition, I want to dedicate my time and efforts in expanding my knowledge of different viruses such as the HIV virus, which holds a large amount of stigma in societ. After the project, I'd like to attend a prestigious research university and become a medical scientist.Projects

Barriers in long-term adherence to HIV antiretroviral therapy in developing countries
Started Feb. 28, 2023
Abstract or project description
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is one of the most effective ways of preventing HIV-related morality. However, patient adherence to antiretroviral therapy and rates of retention have been suboptimal in developing countries within racial/ethnic minorities. This current study examines whether barriers associated with antiretroviral therapy such as financial constraints, perceived discrimination, medical mistrust, social stigma, etc. have an effect on the adherence of antiretroviral therapy within racial/ethnic minorities in developing countries.
