Introducing Favorable Mutations of Polymerase Orthologs in Human DNA Polymerase

Started Jan. 9, 2025

Abstract or project description

This paper is a review on DNA Polymerase mutations found in other organisms, such as bacteriophages, that improve the protein's function, and how these mutations could be engineered into human proteins. Polymerase is an important protein that completes the process of DNA replication, one of the most important functions in the human body. Outside in the lab, it has been optimized to meet lab conditions or perform more efficiently, but this has never been something considered for solicitation in humans. This paper will discuss the potential applications of previous research on polymerase being transported over to a human body, and ways protein engineering could apply to it.
