A Systematic Study of How 3d Printed Infill Patterns Affect Vibration

Started June 30, 2025

Abstract or project description

The vibration effects of a 3D printed part depend not just on its material but also on its inner and outer geometry. We will investigate the effects of the inner geometry from infill patterns on how 3D printed cantilever beams respond differently to vibration. A direct application of this is for 3D printed machine components that are assembled and attached to motors and other devices that produce vibrations. By measuring acceleration over time and analyzing frequency and vibration characteristics, we can quantify how different patterns absorb or transmit vibration. These insights can guide the design of parts for use in 3d printed machines, robotics, or other systems.
