Effect of US-China Tariffs on trade diversion

Abstract or project description

Using open sourced trade data, I am investigating the effects of the US-China tariffs on the diversion of goods from china to the US and/or US exporting behavior as a result of the tariffs. By looking at both Chinese export data and US import data (by tariff groups), we can form relatively clear relationships and uncover how Chinese exporters or even US importers might be skirting the high tariffs. Using what we have found we can even extrapolate for future scenarios (as Trump threatens to raise tariffs on China), making predictions on which countries or even which specific sector of a certain country might benefit or lose out if a hike in tariff rates occur.
