Abstract or project description
Coral reefs are vital ecosystems that support over a third of all marine species and are among the world's most vulnerable environments. These ecosystems are facing imminent collapse primarily due to climate change and its induced stressors. Ocean acidification, elevated sea surface temperatures, and mass bleaching events all contribute to the loss of biodiversity and the collapse of reefs themselves. The destruction of coral reefs poses severe risks to not only marine life but also to human well being. Many coastal communities rely on these ecosystems for food but also economic stability. Coral reefs not only play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance but also supporting diverse marine and human populations. There is an urgent need for conservation efforts to mitigate climate change and its effects to be prioritized to ensure the preservation of these ecosystems for future generations to come.
