Current Treatment Options for Achondroplasia

Abstract or project description
Achondroplasia is a genetically inherited condition that affects limb development in the human body. The condition is caused by a genetic mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) gene. This genetic mutation causes hyperactivity of the FGFR3 protein, which results in slowed bone growth. Many individuals with achondroplasia have disproportionate limb growth, with them having shorter arms and legs but average-sized torsos. As of right now, there are no cures for achondroplasia. However, there are many treatment options available that help manage symptoms. In this review, I will discuss the current and ongoing therapies available for patients with achondroplasia.
