Project Portfolio

How does sleep-dependent plasticity influence cognitive function, and how is this process disrupted in the early stages of Alzheimers disease?

Started Mar. 13, 2025

Abstract or project description

I’m exploring how AMPA receptor trafficking during sleep helps the brain consolidate memories, and what goes wrong in this process during the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. I’ll be analyzing published studies and molecular data to better understand how these receptors behave in both healthy and affected brains. I want to add a Meta-regression paragraph which is like a meta-analysis plus variables so it doesn’t just summarize studies but looks at what influences the effects. I could add a section examining whether factors like Age, Sleep stage (REM vs. slow-wave), or Brain region (e.g., hippocampus vs. cortex) impact AMPA-related plasticity or its breakdown in Alzheimer’s.
