About

Hello! My name is Eren Isbiliroglu, and my project will be on the optimization of the performance and synthesis of existing drugs approved by the FDA. I chose to work in this field because I’ve always been interested in chemistry, hence my profile picture of me at a young age, and a medical incident I had that led to kidney-related concerns for most of my life. After my project is complete, I hope that my contribution will have improved humanity’s knowledge of medicinal chemistry and may provide even more treatment options for those with serious health issues.

Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease: A Review of the Biology of Atherosclerosis and Mechanisms of Action of Empagliflozin and Metoprolol Succinate

Started Apr. 28, 2025

Abstract or project description

Eren is working on a review paper describing Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease. This review focuses on the medicinal chemistry aspects of this disease. As such, the epidemiology, biology, and mechanistic pathways will be discussed. Additionally, an in-depth review of the design, synthesis, and mechanism of action of 2 gold standard medications for OCAD will be discussed in detail. The format of the paper begins with the introduction, which is meant to give an overview of coronary artery disease, particularly the scope of the disease and its history. Following up with statistics, the introduction will then lead into the pathology behind atherosclerosis, most notably the cell processes that lead to the illness. After that, the body of the paper extensively discusses two gold standard treatments for coronary artery disease, while also mentioning the rationale behind these two treatments. There will be accompanying figures in the body of the paragraph, or when statistics are relevant.
