Regional effects of climate change on vector-borne diseases (specific region TBD)

Started May 4, 2022

Abstract or project description

Global shifts in climate have had extraordinary impacts around the world that drastically altered infectious disease prevalence. Arboviruses and other arthropod/vector-borne diseases are particularly influenced by temperature shifts and corresponding changes in human behavior. This review will focus on environmental changes that have altered disease burden in a particular region (TBD) with endemic vector-borne illness. Arthropod physiology, ecology, and disease transmission dynamics will be analyzed in response to environmental changes with additional consideration from geopolitical and public health fields. This will provide a framework for understanding climate shift impacts on disease transmissibility as well as local mitigation strategies.
