Abstract or project description

This project concerns the importance--often overlooked or denied--of what Kimberlé Crenshaw termed "intersectionality" in public policy. We initially discussed looking for a way to study this within the context of carceral justice but have since considered focusing on other issues. An example of a possible topic would be the exclusion of pregnant transpeople (who are marginalized in at least two ways) from public policy regarding reproductive rights. Sources are likely to include statistical data gleaned from sociological studies, legal and judicial documents and decisions, and pertinent strains of literary and social theory.
