Can neuroforecasting the nucleus accumbens and anterior insula predict market bubbles?

Abstract or project description
Predicting aggregate behavior has remained a central goal of economics, but traditional forecasting methods cannot account for the neural processes underlying decision making. Neuroforecasting, an emerging field within neuroeconomics that uses neural activity to predict population-level outcomes, has successfully forecasted behavior across multiple domains, but its potential to predict more complex market phenomena remains relatively unexplored. I examine whether neuroforecasting can plausibly predict market bubbles by integrating neural signals from the nucleus accumbens and anterior insula with traditional market data. I further evaluate critiques of neuroforecasting as a tool in the market, consider plausible economic applications for corporate and governmental entities, and examine economic implications of long-term widespread neuroforecasting. I then explore possible ethical implications of real-world neuroforecasting. Although substantial challenges remain in its use and integration, continued advances may establish neuroforecasting as a valuable complement to traditional forecasting measures and may significantly shape future research in neuroeconomics.
