Abstract or project description
This research paper explores the impact of irrigation subsidies on water use efficiency, groundwater depletion, and various stakeholders in Indian agriculture. By analyzing regional differences in subsidy structures and their effects on water consumption, this study aims to understand how these policies shape agricultural sustainability. Through qualitative analysis of government policies and various case studies of states like Punjab, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, the research will highlight both intended and unintended consequences of irrigation subsidies. The findings will provide insights into policy reforms that balance agricultural productivity with sustainable water management.
