How the thickness or flexibility of the material of the lens in a lens to plate Casimir geometry affects the attractive force, and does it result in oscillations

Started May 16, 2025

Abstract or project description

Many geometries have been researched, and their affect in the magnitude of the attractive Casimir force, including a concave lens(just the curved shape) to a metal plate. Modifying and studying the thickness and flexibility of a specific material, under the same lens and plate configuration, suggest the idea of the bending of the material, due to the attractive force. Calculations must be done in order to determine for which magnitude/distance the force "dominates" the firmness of the material. This can possibly result in oscillation of the curved flexible lens. As for now, oscillations are observed only horizontally while conducting measurements on an AFM(Atomic force microscope).
