Investigating the Causative Relationship Between Hyperinsulinemia and Pancreatic Cancer
Started Mar. 11, 2025
Abstract or project description
In this paper I want to discuss a newly found independent risk factor for pancreatic cancer called hyperinsulinemia, or excess amounts of insulin being present in the body. My paper will take a causative approach, stating that hyperinsulinemia plays a key role in pancreatic cancer development. I will first go into detail on the origins of insulin, how it is produced, and then reference simple pancreatic anatomy. Once I have written descriptions for these factors, I will discuss all the data points which support the claim of hyperinsulinemia acting as a factor in pancreatic cancer cell development. These points will fall under general categories of pancreatitis, obesity, inflammation of the pancreas, and the overactivation of pancreatic digestive enzymes. I will include limitations as well to provide more nuance and details to my claims.
