Does compliance with health recommendations slow the transmission of COVID-19?

Started Mar. 3, 2025

Abstract or project description

This project explores the impact of public compliance with health recommendations on the spread of COVID-19. It focuses on behaviors such as mask-wearing, social distancing, testing, and vaccination, and how closely communities followed these guidelines. Using case studies from Los Angeles, San Diego, and Cupertino—cities with varying population densities and public health policies—the project will analyze COVID-19 case trends and testing data to determine whether areas with higher compliance had lower transmission rates.

Research will include government health department reports, scientific articles, and population density statistics. The project will also examine how access to resources, communication strategies, and enforcement of guidelines affected compliance. By comparing the effectiveness of public health measures across different regions, this study aims to better understand how individual and collective actions influenced the course of the pandemic. The findings may help improve responses to future public health emergencies.
