The drivers of exclusion in U.S. immigration policy

Abstract or project description

This paper sets out to understand the motives behind immigration exclusion–the pattern of targeting minorities through policies limiting rights ranging from entering the country to participating as equal citizens. It will define immigration exclusion, provide a brief timeline of the practice, identify and explain the factors behind it, and trace how they have developed throughout American history.
