Corresponding Hospital Food Textures and Speech-Language Pathology Recommendations
Started Apr. 27, 2026
Abstract or project description
This project explores how hospital meals align with speech-language pathology (SLP) recommendations designed to keep patients safe while eating. The student photographed meals served in the hospital and compared their textures and consistencies with the dietary modifications prescribed by SLP teams. These recommendations are particularly important for patients with swallowing difficulties, as appropriately textured foods can reduce the risk of choking and aspiration. By examining the relationship between meal preparation and clinical guidance, the project highlights the collaboration between nutrition services and speech-language pathologists in patient care. Ultimately, the project aims to increase understanding of how food texture modifications contribute to safety and recovery in the hospital setting.
