Abstract or project description
Aditya's project focuses on local air pollution in Irvine, CA. The presence of a local factory has been linked to rising levels of air pollution, in addition to the increasing numbers of wildfires due to climate change. In a presentation to local representatives, Aditya plans to communicate information on the exposures, effects, and experiences related to air pollution in his community. Information on exposures to air pollutants will come from publicly available data on ambient volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Irvine. Information on the effects of specific (VOCs) and the broader effects of air pollution on human biology and health will come from a review of published academic articles. Finally, Aditya plans to interview community members to generate qualitative data on local individuals' experience of air pollution. By compiling and communicating information on the exposures, effects, and experiences of air pollution to local representatives, Aditya's project will help to advocate for local policy changes to improve environmental health.
