The Effect of Online vs. In-Person Learning on Student Outcomes in Kazakhstan

Музафар is working on a quantitative research paper that will analyze the whether or not student learning changed as a result of in-person versus online schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kazakhstan. His paper will explore three main hypotheses. Hypothesis 1 is that most students were negatively affected in 2021 (as a result of the pandemic). Hypothesis 2 is that platforms that did not require students to search for answers had a negative effect on student learning. Hypothesis 3 is that students that used cell phones for learning during that time were more likely to have negative learning outcomes compared to those who did not. Музафар will test these hypotheses by fielding an original survey of high school students and multivariable logistic regression to analyze the survey data.
