Bio

Hello! My name is Archie. I studied Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University, where I received my B.S. (2016), M.S. (2018), and Ph.D. (2020). I currently work as a Senior Data Manager at Ethicon in Cincinnati, OH. I also have expertise in biomaterials, biomechanics, bioimaging, and deep learning/machine learning with 7+ years of experience. I am an open-minded lifelong learner, avid karateka, amateur chef, avocational guitarist, and voracious reader. I also like hiking, biking, and being with nature. I look forward to mentoring and talking with you!

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

The Shape of Bones

Have you ever wondered why some bones are long and cylindrical while others are flat and irregularly shaped? Learn how a bone shape is influenced by its function and build bone-inspired structures in this project!

Predicting Breast Cancer Using Deep Learning

One of my Polygence students developed a web app that can read mammograms and predict whether or not there is a potential cancer tumor in the image.

Predicting coronary artery disease using machine learning

One of my Polygence students built a machine learning model to predict coronary artery disease using data from electrocardiograms and blood test results.

Mathematical modeling of autoimmune diseases

One of my Polygence students developed a mathematical model of autoimmune hepatitis using differential equations.

Coding skills

python, MATLAB, html

Languages I know

Vietnamese

Teaching experience

I have mentored more than 10 undergrad and high school students in my research lab and successfully get them co-authored on 4 of my papers. I have mentored over 10 students with Polygence. I taught Quantitative Physiology in grad school to a class of 40 college students. This course involved MATLAB coding and computer simulations and how they can be used to model various biological processes.
