Bio
Hi! I'm Zoe, and I'm a recent graduate of Duke University. While at Duke, I double majored in public policy and psychology. My public policy major allowed me to enroll in classes that covered a broad range of subjects, including economics, statistics, political science, and philosophy. I really enjoyed engaging in critical discussions around policy-making, and some of my favorite topics include data privacy/technology, drug policy, and social justice. Moreover, throughout my coursework, I developed an interest in decision sciences and behavioral economics. I love asking the "why?" behind human behavior and consumer choices, and I would love to mentor on topics involving key behavioral economics principles such as heuristics, nudging, hyperbolic discounting, and more. Outside of school, I was involved in Duke's largest arts, media, and programming body and have extensive event-planning and leadership experience. Moreover, I was a writer, actor, and producer for Me Too Monologues, a student-led theater project that aims to uplift marginalized voices. Lastly, I also have significant internship experience in the marketing/advertising industry, and I plan on joining Yext, an online brand management company, as a technical project manager post-graduation.Project ideas
Creating Policy
Recommendations to Regulate Modern Technology: Are you interested in ethical implications of modern technology and want to learn how the government can better regulate it? Technology could include analyzing the YouTube/Tik Tok algorithm, micro targeting in advertising technology, self-driving vehicles, the use of artificial intelligence, and more. In this project, you will have to consider ethical, social, and practical factors in designing a solution and learn how to write an effective policy memo.
Understanding Consumer Behavior:
Are you interested getting an introduction into basic behavioral economic principles? Are you curious about how people make decisions in a variety of contexts? After learning about some of the foundational principles of decision sciences, we can find an area of interest and conduct an original research project that will build upon existing principles.
Creating a Marketing Campaign:
In this project, the student would select a brand, product, or service of choice and I would work together with the student to come up with an effective marketing campaign. For students interested in the marketing industry, this could be a great project to showcase when applying for a job.
Creative Multimedia Project:
Interested in displaying your research in a different format, such as a screenplay or podcast? In this project, I will guide students in producing an original work that covers the student's area of interest, and I will be drawing from my prior experience in theatrical production and arts/media/programming.
