Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Strategies for Political Mobilization of Citizens Who Cannot Read

A research paper that explores strategies for increasing voter mobilization amongst American citizens who struggle to read. We will review the literature on education, political mobilization, and literacy rates in the United States, then evaluate the pros- and cons- of adopting strategies for increasing literacy and voter mobilization at the state- and national-levels. There is potential to integrate original findings from basic statistical analysis into the paper depending on student interest. Students will finish the project with a greater understanding of how literacy affects civic and political life in the United States, advanced writing skills, and a 10-15 page draft journal article.
