Bio

Hello! My name is Chloe and I am an artist, filmmaker, writer, and educator currently based in Providence, RI. I have an MFA from Brown University and I am a community teaching artist and college professor (RISD and Massachussets College of Art & Design). My art practice is interdisciplinary and research-based (employing documentary strategies), and I work with media including: analogue film, video, installation, drawing, sound, archives, oral history and writing. I also often focus on art and science intersections, ecology, and environmental issues (especially related to water, pollution and fungi). I love getting to witness what students are passionate about and help them craft thoughtful and meaningful work.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Art + Science Intersections (especially environmental research)

Are you an artist or writer who integrates the sciences into your work? Or do you care about environmental issues? I am happy to support you in researching the topic of your choice and integrating it into your artistic practice and creative work--from sculpture to social practice to film to poetry. My own research focus tends to be on fungi, water, pollution and entanglement, but I can support any topic you feel drawn to.

Documentary arts & film

Are you looking to make a short film? Do documentary research for an art project? Conduct oral history interviews? I can support mentees in documentary research and production for an artistic project in their media of choice (film, video, art, sound, installation, poetry, creative nonfiction, social practice, etc). Our process could support archival research, place-based observation, interviewing, technical and creative support (for recording audio, video or photo), pre- and post-production, and documentary ethics. If you're not sure what you want to make, we can think together on research topic, creative processes of inquiry, and artistic outcomes.

Creative writing (poetry and non-fiction)

Do you love to write? Whether you're looking to try your hand at a new medium, or want to have feedback and support on completing a sustained writing project, I am happy to join forces. I can support mentees in a creative writing or book arts project of their choice. I specialize in poetry, hybrid (image-text and multimedia) work and essays.

Crafting your art portfolio

Are you an artist, filmmaker or creative writer looking to build an art portfolio or website for your college application? I am happy to work with you to reflect on the work you have made and brainstorm visions for future creations. Together, we can think about the patterns and stories within your art and what inspires you as an artist and person in the world. Through various prompts and exercises, we will explore how you can write about your art and create a carefully-crafted portfolio to share this vision with others.
