Bio

Hey! I'm Jared, a software engineer working in Seattle. I majored in Computer Science and have since worked in the tech industry. I love what I do and can't get enough of using code to solve problems. I've touched anything from mobile apps to websites to services you wouldn't even think about! My best days are those when I can dig deep into a problem and find a solution. I hope to be able to spark this in students through mentoring. Other than coding you can find me skiing on a mountain, hiking on a mountain, or biking up a mountain (notice a trend?). Besides finding a mountain to conquer I am usually deep diving into music from EDM to indie rock.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

A mobile app to track Covid-19 vaccine side effects

Build an app on iOS or Android (or both!) which lets a person record their Covid-19 vaccination symptoms as a kind of journal. Additional features could include sharing this with other users, time stamps, and looking up symptoms to see how prevalent they are.

Build an AI to play the board game of your choice

Find a board game which has a good, public, implementation and build an AI which plays the game. Challenge yourself by playing your AI against another person's or have your friends play it!

Coding skills

C#, Python, Javascript, Azure (and cloud services), HTML

Teaching experience

I was a TA at the University of Washington for a intro to coding course for two semesters. This course was focused on small projects to get students into C# coding. I graded projects and answered questions throughout the course. I currently am mentoring a student with an interest in computer science at an alternative school. We meet once a week to dig into small coding projects and whatever he is interested in. My major is in Computer Science but I have been focusing on Software Engineering since graduating.
