Bio
Hi! I'm Katie. I've always been interested in visual arts, and first entered the world of design in high school, where I took a fashion design class and learned principles of design such as contrast, visual hierarchy, color, unity, and proportion. I went on to study graphic design at university and learned how to apply those principles to print and web formats. I was fascinated by the idea of visual communication and making important information easy and enjoyable to consume. I now own my own company, where I work as a branding designer. I help small businesses create a visual presence (logo, website, business cards, etc.) that will connect with and attract their ideal audience. I love experiencing cultures, and have spent time living and volunteering in Russia, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where I learned a lot observing other cultures' communication and style. I enjoy painting, reading, and thrifting. I'm very excited to get to know students with an interest in design, marketing, business, and Adobe programs. Designing + Launching Your Own Website
Not only will we launch your website from start to finish (wireframes, mockups, and publishing on a web hosting service), but we will study UX/UI elements of successful and user-friendly websites.
How Isolation Affects a Culture's Art
We will study Japan in its period of isolation in the 17th century and how that isolation affected the artistic expression of the time.
