- Research Program Mentor

JD/PhD at Yale University

Expertise

Creative writing, journalism, modern American literature, 19th century to modern French literature, French language and culture, American law

Bio

I grew up trilingual in France, England, and Germany before attending Princeton University. At Princeton, I majored in comparative literature and minored in creative writing. My thesis was a novel accompanied by a literary analysis, and won Princeton's Joyce Carol Oates Award in creative writing. I was also a member of the French theater troupe l'Avant-Scène and a freelance reporter for the University Press Club, a group of student journalists. My work has appeared in WHYY Newsworks, Le Monde, Planet Princeton, LGBT Weekly, and the Matador Review. I have been focusing on media law through my work with the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic, an organization at Yale that provides free legal services to journalists while furthering various policy goals. I also served as a teaching assistant for a creative writing class in Yale's undergraduate English department, and continue to write creatively as I pursue my law degree. I enjoy probing the nuances of language and prose in both academic and creative contexts.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Project 1

Writing a newspaper article and pitching it to news outlets

Project 2

Writing a short story

Project 3

Writing an academic paper on particular novels and bodies of scholarship

Teaching experience

In college, I taught new members of the University Press Club by reviewing their submissions during our three-month application process and by meeting with them to discuss strategies for improvement. Last semester, I served as a teaching assistant for Daily Themes, an undergraduate creative writing class at Yale. I met with five students every week to discuss their work for thirteen weeks.
