- Research Program Mentor

PhD candidate at Duke University

Expertise

psychology, philosophy, english, creative writing

Bio

Hi, I'm Jacqueline! I'm a clinical psychology Ph.D. candidate researching borderline personality disorder and misophonia. I'm really interested in how the social emotions like shame and guilt affect how we get along with each other. In college, I was actually a philosophy major and also focused on creative writing. Those are still two of my greatest passions today! I also enjoy reading, painting, and cooking.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Podcast or YouTube Channel

I have co-hosted an evidence-based mental health podcast for two years and was previously hired by TVGuide to host a recap podcast. Given my experience, I can help students craft episodes that incorporate research on a topic of their choice.

Conduct a Qualitative Study

While quantitative studies provide important information about population level differences, qualitative studies allow us to understand psychological processes with more detail and specificity. Qualitative studies use methods such as interviews, observation, and focus groups to collect data, and can be a rewarding way to examine processes of interest.

Review Paper

A review paper is a great way to become a mini-expert in a subject. I will help you find research papers pertaining to your interest and help you craft a paper that synthesizes the research and provides ideas for future study.

Teaching experience

I have TA'd in grad school, so I taught an abnormal psychology discussion section. I also used to teach an after school program for elementary school kids.
