Bio
Hello, my name is Jonathan Maltz and I am theoretical physicist at Stanford University. I got my PhD here in 2013 with professor Leonard Susskind as my research advisor and I have had postdoctoral appointments at the IPMU in Japan, UC Berkeley, and finally back here at Stanford. Through my research, I have been working on string theory/ M-theory, quantum field theory and quantum gravity, black hole physics and simulations, and generally high energy physics. My focus has been on figuring out how to incorporate our type of universe, one that has exponential expansion due to dark energy a.k.a. a positive cosmological constant, into the string theory formalism. For hobbies, I love to draw, play on computers, I love sci-fi books, movies. I very much care about how the world works and If you have any questions about any topic in physics or math, I will do my best to answer them.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Project 1
Learn some basic general relativity and quantum mechanics and why one has to quantize gravity.
Project 2
Study and simulate some properties of various types of black holes, realistic or highly mathematical.
Project 3
Compute the results of some inflationary potential or tunneling process.

"Thank you so much Dr. Maltz for all of your hard work! You've taught me more physics in ten short sessions than I've ever been able to learn in High school. While it has been a difficult path to get to where I am, I am grateful to have such a dedicated mentor alongside me"
