- Research Program Mentor

MD at Tufts University

Expertise

Asthma, health disparities

Bio

I am a pulmonary (lung disease) and critical care doctor interested in healthcare disparity and asthma research. This is an exciting area of study where much more research is needed. I greatly look forward to introducing new students to this field! When not at work, I enjoy pampering my Great Dane. She loves walks and homemade snacks! I am working on teaching her to join in paddle boarding.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Local Asthma Care

This project will focus on identifying an area for improvement in local asthma care. I will help the student understand frequent barriers faced by patients seeking medical care and we will work together to brainstorm projects creating solutions to one of these barriers.

High School Health Independence

Adolescents often have difficulty managing medical problems as they transition from pediatric to adult care. In this project, we will work together to help improve high school students' understanding of their role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Teaching experience

As an instructor in the Tufts University Prematriculation Summer Program, I developed and implemented a curriculum designed to introduce incoming Tufts Medical Students to the basic principles and techniques of physical diagnosis. I also created lectures and facilitated hands-on skills sessions designed to spark interest in careers in the sciences among underrepresented high school students as an instructor in the Tufts University Teachers and High School Student Program. Additionally, I volunteered as a Problem Based Learning Facilitator Trainer at Tufts University School of Medicine where I assisted in training new problem based learning facilitators by giving constructive feedback from a student perspective.
