Bio

Hello! My name is Nathaniel Tricarico and I currently work as a nuclear engineer. My career so far as been a unique one, but my passion has always been the same - solving problems and helping people. I've worked on Nuclear Submarines, Nuclear Power plants, Steel mills and at last, I am now a Masters student at UPenn for Computer Science. I am an energetic and outgoing person who likes to stay active. I enjoy playing sports and outdoor activities like soccer, racquetball, tennis, and backpacking. In my spare time, I compose music, and have played guitar in a band. I've been blessed to travel the world and have many unique experiences and lessons learned that I would like to share with the next generation.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Harness the Wind: DIY Hovercraft

Two opinions with for this project: 1. 3D model and design your miniature craft and use an Arduino to control the craft 2. Build a human size hovercraft to ride. (Tools needed) This project aims to teach students about design, 3D modeling, aerodynamics, programming, and problem solving.

Compose a detailed research proposal for your dream project

Your proposal could be anything! Having the experience to clearly communicate your ideas through writing is a highly sought after skill. Engineers and other STEM majors tend to lack in this skill so having mastery of will put you far head of your peers. Having a proposal will be very impressive when you are applying for jobs or schools in the future.

Coding skills

Python, Java, Matlab

Teaching experience

1. I volunteered to teach Highschool students 3-D modeling and robotics with a program called Seaperch. It was a 3 month program and at the end they built themselves an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and competed in a national tournament. 2. I have also given talks about my career and studies to High school classes as well as my old boyscout group.
