- Research Program Mentor

PhD candidate at University of Texas Austin (UT Austin)

Expertise

Reinforcement Learning, AI, Neurosymbolic Methods, Robotics, Networking, Secure Communications, System Architecture, Design

Bio

I work intelligent robots and methods for enabling transparent decision making and generalization. Previously, I worked on various R&D projects related to secure communication systems and networking for distributed systems. Making (any) system do things it couldn't do before, and improving behavior and control are all engineering and research-y type pragmatic problems I like to work on and think about. I'm a foodie, I like to travel, play soccer, and trail run.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Pick your favorite system

Think about it. What works, what doesn't? Can you break it? How can you improve? What can't it do (is this by design or a fundamental limitation?). If there is a problem, why is it a problem? Keep digging. Now, what can you do solve a small or large part of that problem? Example: - Take a cheap Android phone (doesn't have to be newest model). Figure out how to remote control your phone. Build an intelligent controller to control that device. (Probably at least 4 months).

Coding skills

Python, C/C++, Golang, Perl, Java, certain web frameworks

Languages I know

Mandarin, beginner

Teaching experience

I have TA'd for a probability and statistics class while at Brown, and I have also been an academic excellence workshop facilitator (encourage collaborative problem solving) for various engineering math classes at Cornell (multivariable calculus, differential equations). I have mentored a few interns and several junior engineers on various R&D projects (related to networking, secure communications, infrastructure, and a deep learning classifier).
