Expertise

Environmental health (combination of public health, environmental science, biology, chemistry, and statistics/epidemiology)

Bio

With a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from the University of Rochester, I am currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of North Carolina's Gillings School of Global Public Health. I spent two years as a Research Assistant at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on a study focused on neighborhood/housing impacts on the asthma of children whose families receive government-provided housing vouchers. I now work on a research team testing whole-home lead levels in Warren County, NC utilizing low-cost test strips and youth citizen scientists. In my free time, I love to cook, bake, try new hobbies (most recent is learning to sew), and doing puzzles. My family is from Ghana, so I love to reconnect with my culture whenever I can, whether through visiting, eating traditional food, or listening to Ghanaian music.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Scientific Review Paper

In this project, you will conduct a scientific review on the topic of your choice. Topics could range from "the relationship between long-term antihistamine usage and dementia" and "the history of environmental justice in the United States". Not only will you gain in-depth knowledge of your topic, but you will also learn how to sort their resources, identify appropriate peer-reviewed and grey literature sources, and complete proper citations.
