Bio

Hey, I'm Winston. I currently work as an R&D engineer in the energy sector, where I design and prototype technologies in renewable energy and electrification, pushing them toward mass production. Prior to this role, I earned a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and interned at consumer electronics (Apple) and automotive (Continental) companies. I'm especially passionate about design, manufacturing, and robotics. Outside of work, you can find me playing badminton, volleyball, working out, or hiking. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to chat about product development, college, or just to connect.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Noise-Reducing Enclosure for a Window AC Unit without Sacrificing Cooling Performance

Window air conditioners are convenient and affordable cooling solutions, but they often produce disruptive noise. This project challenges students to design a noise-reducing external housing or enclosure that can be placed around a window AC unit to dampen sound without blocking airflow or compromising cooling efficiency. Students will explore principles of acoustic insulation, airflow dynamics, and thermal management while considering cost, materials, and user safety. Through this project, you will engage in the full design process, explore CAD and FEA tools, and ultimately produce a prototype as a final deliverable.

Coding skills

Python, Matlab, Java, C

Teaching experience

I have over six years of mentoring experience across different academic levels. I started off volunteering as a peer tutor in high school, I then hosted private teaching sessions with middle schoolers during covid, and eventually became a TA for Engineering Analysis Courses in college.
