Bio

I am a social psychologist and a full professor at Artois University in France, where I lead an international research team focused on changing behaviors by shifting mindsets. Our work spans areas such as misinformation, growth mindsets, mindfulness, and competition. Previously, I was a research scientist at Stanford University, collaborating with Carol Dweck and Greg Walton on social-psychological interventions in education. My research lies at the intersection of individual differences, social psychology, and educational psychology. I am particularly interested in understanding the psychological processes that drive individuals to engage in learning, work, and leisure activities. My passion lies in exploring how these processes can be thoughtfully influenced to promote better learning outcomes, improved performance, and enhanced mental health.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Resilience and Growth Mindset

The state of the art in resilience: What sort of beliefs, traits, habits can help us to be resilient when we face setbacks? What are the adaptive and maladaptive internal monologues? What are the obstacles of learning?

Developing Self-Developmental Competitive Mindset

How can we shape our orientation towards competition? How can we learn to focus on self-development in the competitive situations? What do we know about the intertwined nature of cooperation and competition? How these processes can help survival, strengthen belonging, shape our interpersonal relationships, or lead to cross-cultural differences?

Counter-misinformation Interventions with Lasting Effects

Most misinformation interventions tend to have short-lived effects. This raises an important question: how can we design brief, scalable interventions that effectively motivate and empower people to recognize fake news? In collaboration with an international and interdisciplinary team, we are diving into this fascinating challenge. If you're passionate about this topic and eager to contribute, I would be thrilled to have you join us on this exciting journey. Together, we can explore innovative solutions and make a meaningful impact!

Mindfulness Mindset

Teachers often urge students to pay attention, but a key challenge lies in students' beliefs about their ability to develop mindfulness skills—skills crucial for attention, awareness, acceptance, and being present. When students view these abilities as fixed, they tend to invest less effort. However, if they believe these skills can be cultivated, it can unlock their full potential. How can we design interventions that shift this mindset? If this topic excites you, I’d love to share our current progress and collaborate with you to push the boundaries of this field together. Let’s explore this important question and make a difference!
