Bio

I currently work at a high school in Kansas City connecting students to businesses, non-profits, and government agencies to solve real problems in our community. Whether that's through marketing, providing services, or applying for grants, my goal is that each student graduates with something tangible on their resume to prepare to enter the real world. Many of my students get offered jobs and are highly sought after for college programs and other internship opportunities! Additionally, I spend a lot of time grant-writing and reporting follow-up data on those programs. Outside of work, I love travelling and learning languages. I lived in Cairo, Egypt for three years to complete an Arabic language program and ended up staying to work at a marketing company. My favorite project was working on the Versace launch of the Dylan Blue perfume.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Substance Use Prevention for Teens and Young Adults

How might we bring awareness, prevention and support to teens and young adults currently experiencing substance use disorder? Using the human-centered design thinking process, students will research and ideate solutions for their community. Students should research substance use among their own demographic and location, connect with subject matter experts in the field, and evaluate current efforts around substance use prevention. Deliverables could include: a research proposal for a government office, media and marketing resources for community-action groups, grant writing, or mock-ups of social supports.

Current Event Podcast

What are you passionate about researching and educating your community about through a podcast? Students should research their interest among their target demographic and location, connect with subject matter experts in the field, and evaluate current efforts around the issue. Deliverables could include: several podcast episodes, a marketing plan, a pitch for a solution surrounding the issue, or a business plan for monetization.

Teaching experience

I work at a high school in Kansas City connecting students with businesses to solve problems and pitch solutions to problems in our community. I help facilitate our internship program placing and mentoring 80 students a semester as well as a half-day and full-day Real World Learning program!
