Crystal T

- Research Program Mentor

PhD candidate at Stanford University

Expertise

cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, biology

Bio

I am a Ph.D. student studying cell size regulation at Stanford University. I am in the bioengineering program, and often apply quantitative approaches to biological questions. I like to answer questions that are fundamental to biology and cells. Outside of my research, I enjoy all forms of arts, in particular, singing and dancing. I also spend quite a bit of time keeping my houseplants happy and alive. A fun fact I have is that I once accidentally dropped my phone off of the Brooklyn bridge in New York City, and proceeded to find it afterwards.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

The relationship between cell size and senescence

Often, older/senescent cells are larger in size. What is the relationship between the two phenotype? Is that a mutual pathway or do they impact each other?

The Variability of Cell Sizes Across Human Cells

Human cells range from small red blood cells to big sperm cells. How do cell types know what their ideal size is?
