Abstract or project description

Current standards of care for Cancer Patients, like Chemotherapy and the use of proteins, are extreme measures that are not only cost inefficient but fatally damaging to many patients who win their fight against cancer but still pass away from the side effects of treatment. These faults bring light to new possible treatments that could be safer for patients including, a form of ex-vivo gene therapy, Car-T cell therapy. During this process white blood cells (T cells)are taken out of the patient's body and modified using empty viruses that house genes which infiltrate the cell's nucleus. These genes alter the genetic makeup of the white blood cells and teach them to target and recognize evasive tumors. This cell then undergoes a process of expansion as many duplications of the cell is grown. These cells then renter the patient's body and begin to fight the tumor.
