Water Wars in the Middle East and Asia

Fresh water is one of our most precious natural resources, and the sharing of it across international borders is a cause for serious tension and conflict in international relations. Pick one or more examples of a conflict over water (there are many really interesting cases to choose from!) and learn about the complex geographical, political, cultural and historical issues involved - there is often far more going on below the surface!

Who were the Islamic Gunpowder Empires? Understanding history through art and architecture.

Interested to learn about the history of the Ottoman (Turkey), Safavid (Iran), or Mughal (India) Empires? You may not have heard of them, but each of these empires controlled unrivalled wealth and ruled over vast areas in their heydays - something that is maybe best understood through studying the art and architecture they created. This highly visual project would offer a fantastic grounding in premodern Islamic history, but can also be taken further to look at how the historical legacy of each has helped shape ideas of national identity and politics in modern times.
